CQL employs an active management approach that uses a proprietary bottom-up analysis to identify approximately 80 -110 small cap companies that it believes have competitive advantages, durable business models, sustainable free cash flow generation and high returns on invested capital for inclusion in the Fund's portfolio. We focus on small-cap companies listed in the Russell 2000 Index.



OUR INVESTMENT PHILOSOPHY





The firm's approach revolves around the reduction of variability and the enhancement of diversification. The strategy is beta and market-cap neutral, comprising two sub-portfolios - one emphasizing value and the other growth. Securities in each sector/industry are meticulously identified using sector-specific models, with the overarching goal of producing high excess returns across diverse market environments.

CQL's investment process is characterized by 28 customized, sector-specific, multi-factor ranking models, emphasizing security selection. The approach remains neutral to sector, beta, and market-cap, with a fundamental review of each holding. Designed to perform favorable in various economic environments, the process aligns with key performance targets, including alpha, batting average, and risk consistency.



Portfolio Management




Led by seasoned professionals, CQL Capital Management boasts an experienced team. Portfolio Managers John Russon, CFA, and Doug McLaren, CFA candidate, bring a wealth of experience, with John contributing over 30 years to the asset management industry, including a role as the Founding Member and Senior Portfolio Manager of Piermont Capital Management. Doug with a background in computational finance, contributes his expertise gained from years in discretionary asset management.​
